After reading a lot of fictional, historical, mythological and motivational books, my mind wanted light reading and I had been waiting for something which doesn’t involve much of thinking and just flows like a song in the head, something very relatable and not much wondering. All in all, I wanted to read romance for my soul and here I got this, from Shannon of R&R Book Tour. Thanks, Shannon, this was exactly what I needed😍.
The Book cover pulled me and I read the Genre which said Chick Lit and I screamed (in my mind) OMG! OMG! I had been longing to read some diverting Chick Lit because this would now relax me and take me out from the “saviour of the world” zone (after reading historical and motivational stuff).
Well! returning back to the Book after sharing my heart’s desire, the protagonist of the book Kendall is a woman in her mid-thirties but still single along with some of her cousins and they form a group called by her sarcastic yet hilarious Grandma Beverly “The Lonely Spinsters Club“. I just loved Grandma Bev, she is a bit nosy and always nagging the girls for being single but she truly cares for them. Grandma thinks that a woman needs a companion in the end days of her life when she grows old but Kendall doesn’t subscribe to her thoughts. She is raised by a single mother to be an independent, goal oriented and career-focused girl and she becomes one. A perfect one. Life is an average, just like an attorney should have until she meets Giovanni in a bachelorette party, he is that perfect fictional man that every book lover read about. Yes, he is the desire of every woman in the room But! he’s a stripper. Meeting Gio changes Kendall, for better or for worse? and life takes some uncertain twists and turns. In between, there are things going on with Kendall and her cousins, (a lot of them you will encounter) but Freya is the one who shares her apartment because she’s going through hard times with her husband.
What keeps you going in the story is the uncertainty on how Kendall would tell Gio her feelings for him and even if she tells him, how would Gio respond. If he too likes her, do they have a future together? Kendall does not just struggle with her feelings throughout but she also has to reshuffle her priorities and get herself clear about the definition of true success. She has to choose between the success that Grandma Beverly talks about or the success she has been struggling for so long. The moment she makes a decision, Giovanni’s reality shook her and she is left all alone. What is that Gio is up with and why has he been with her if he wanted something different? is all that juggles your mind. Her decision, in the end, would leave you in tears (I guess!)
I personally enjoyed the book because I wanted to read something light which would click me fast and the story is so well woven that not even once I got confused as to what has been happening in the story, because the story has family, cousins, co-workers but their part in the story has been knitted very substantially.
Also, the book is full of romance in between, which would surely make you feel you are attracted to Gio😉. I loved the humour in the book and Grandma Bev was my favourite when it came to satirical humour. The book certainly revolves around some of the modern women and their individual battles in life, so it is surely a chick Lit which is not just cock-a-hoop but in a true sense portrays a 21st-century woman’s conflict in her life.
I would recommend this book to all those who have been waiting for some floaty, casual and peaceful reading, this book will surely content you with the romance and humour, also, Kendall’s uncertainty about her decision and the revelations in between about Giovanni will keep you going to the next chapter for sure and Giovanni’s charm will make you add some more characteristics to the list you have been preparing for your “better half”(I have fallen in love with him, now it’s your turn🤭)
I would end with one of my favourite lines in the book that Grandma Beverly said
A mother works hard to raise her children without spoiling them. Grandbabies are the reward for all that self-discipline. A grandparent gets to spoil her grandchild.”
What do you feel about the book? Do you have some fictional character that you adore and are secretly in love with? Do share your heart with me. I would love to listen😉
